Dear Santa, my name is Rannva, and I am nine years old. I live in Torshavn, Faroe Islands, where my abbi says some of our houses have real grass growing right on top of their roofs.
Dear Rannva, grass roofs might be my favorite kind of landing pad, soft, green, and wonderfully unexpected, your abbi picked a truly charming hometown.
Santa, I have three questions.
Do you like 80s Christmas songs? My abbi plays them on his old record player every single December.
I have a real soft spot for 80s Christmas music, Rannva, that particular decade brought a lot of cheerful new songs into the mix. Your abbi’s record player sounds like it has excellent taste.
My teacher says the Faroe Islands are known for very tall, dramatic cliffs right along the sea. Is that true?
It is true, Rannva, the Faroe Islands rise up in steep, dramatic cliffs straight out of the ocean, one of the most breathtaking sights on my entire Nordic route. I always slow the sleigh down for that view.
My abbi says the Faroe Islands govern themselves but are still connected to Denmark. Is that true?
It is true, Rannva, the Faroe Islands are a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, making many of their own decisions while staying connected to a larger nation. That kind of thoughtful balance, independence alongside partnership, is a lovely thing to witness.
