Dear Santa,
Hi Santa! My name is Levi and I am 8 years old. I live in Louisville, Kentucky, a city famous for horses and a giant baseball bat. I love baseball and exploring caves with my dad. My question is: how was Santa Claus born? My geography question is: what is Mammoth Cave? And my social studies question is: who was Abraham Lincoln? Thanks, Santa!

Ho ho ho, hello Levi! A cave explorer who loves baseball asks a thoughtful question. I was born in two different ways, really. First, the real man I grew from, Saint Nicholas, was born as a tiny baby long, long ago in a warm seaside town, just as you were once a baby. But the jolly Santa you picture today was born differently, not in a single moment, but slowly, out of the stories of that kind man’s good deeds. Over the centuries, those tales grew and grew until I came to life in people’s hearts and imaginations. So you could say I was born from love and storytelling.
Your geography question: Mammoth Cave
Mammoth Cave, in your own Kentucky, is the longest known cave system in the entire world, with hundreds of miles of winding underground passages. Caves like it form slowly as water trickles through rock over thousands of years, hollowing out tunnels and chambers. Explorers are still discovering new parts of it today.
