Livia from St. Moritz asks Santa if he is at a hotel, learns about the Engadin valley, and hears about St. Moritz hosting the Winter Olympics twice
Dear Santa, my name is Livia and I am nine years old. I live in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where my nonno says our little town hosted the biggest winter sports event in the entire world, not just once, but twice.
Dear Livia, your nonno is entirely right, and I have flown over that particular Olympic history with real pride for a very long time.
Santa, I have three questions.
My first question is, is Santa at a hotel? My little cousin wondered if you ever stayed anywhere other than your own workshop.
I keep my own cozy home at the workshop, Livia, though I confess one of St. Moritz’s elegant hotels sounds genuinely tempting for a quiet night off, someday.
My second question is about our valley. My teacher says St. Moritz sits in a beautiful high valley called the Engadin. Is that true?
It is, Livia. The Engadin valley, where St. Moritz sits, is known for its dramatic mountain scenery and crisp, clear air. Flying through that high alpine valley each Christmas Eve is a genuinely beautiful part of my Swiss route.
My third question is about the Olympics. My teacher says St. Moritz hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Is that true?
It is true, Livia. St. Moritz hosted the Winter Olympics in 1928 and again in 1948, one of the few towns in the world to host the Games more than once. I always find that kind of proud, repeated achievement genuinely admirable.
Merry Christmas, Santa.
Your friend,
Livia Bianchi
St. Moritz, Switzerland
P.S. Did you watch both Olympics from the sleigh?
As much as I could, Livia. It was hard to look away either time.
