Clover, age 9 from Burlington, Vermont, asks Santa about dog-sized Santa hats, Lake Champlain, and Vermont’s maple syrup industry.
Dear Santa, my name is Clover, and I am nine years old. I live in Burlington, Vermont, where my mom says our lake is shared between three different places, Vermont, New York, and even a bit of Canada.
Dear Clover, a lake shared between three places makes for one of the most interesting borders on my entire route, your mom picked a truly well-connected hometown.
Santa, I have three questions.
Is there a Santa dog hat? My puppy wants to match the whole family this Christmas Eve.
There certainly are little Santa hats made just for dogs, Clover, perfect for a puppy eager to join the festivities. A matching family photo, four legs included, sounds like a truly wonderful tradition.
My mom says Lake Champlain touches Vermont, New York, and a little bit of Canada. Is that true?
It is true, Clover, Lake Champlain stretches across parts of Vermont, New York, and Quebec, a truly international body of water. I always enjoy that wide, shimmering lake on my way to your rooftop.
My mom says Vermont is famous for producing a lot of the country’s maple syrup. Is that true?
It is true, Clover, Vermont leads the country in maple syrup production, tapped carefully from trees each early spring. That kind of patient, seasonal craft is really something worth appreciating, Christmas and every day after.
Merry Christmas, Santa.
Your friend,
Clover Whitfield
Burlington, Vermont
P.S. Will my puppy’s hat make it into your workshop collection?
Absolutely, Clover, good dog photos are always welcome additions.
