Dear Santa, my name is Itzel, and I am eight years old. I live in Cancun, Mexico, where my abuela says colorful coral reefs stretch out just beneath the water not far from our beach.
Dear Itzel, reefs that colorful make for one of the prettiest views on my entire route, your abuela picked a truly vibrant hometown.
Santa, I have three questions.
Is there a Santa in Mexico? My little cousin wants to visit one at the mall this year.
There certainly is, Itzel, many shopping centers and community events across Mexico welcome a Santa figure during the season. Ask a grown-up to help find one nearby, a visit in person is always a treat.
My abuela says Cancun sits on the edge of a peninsula called Yucatan. Is that true?
It is true, Itzel, Cancun sits at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, surrounded by the beautiful Caribbean Sea. I always enjoy that turquoise, glimmering coastline on my way to your rooftop.
My abuela says the Yucatan region has a really old and important Maya heritage. Is that true?
It is true, Itzel, the Yucatan Peninsula holds deep Maya heritage, ancient cities and traditions still honored by families today. That kind of respect for a long, storied history is really something worth celebrating.
