Flynn, age 8 from Darwin, Australia, asks Santa about solar-powered decorations, Darwin’s proximity to Indonesia, and its tropical climate.
Dear Santa, my name is Flynn, and I am eight years old. I live in Darwin, Australia, where my mum says we get so much sunshine that some houses run almost entirely on solar power.
Dear Flynn, a city that sunny makes for one of the brightest, most cheerful stops on my entire route, your mum picked a truly radiant hometown.
Santa, I have three questions.
Is there a solar-powered Santa? My neighbor has a solar lawn decoration of you that lights up every night.
There certainly are solar-powered Santa decorations out there, Flynn, soaking up sunshine all day just to glow cheerfully at night. Your neighbor picked a wonderfully fitting decoration for such a sunny place.
My mum says Darwin is actually closer to parts of Indonesia than to Sydney. Is that true?
It is true, Flynn, Darwin sits much closer to Indonesia than to Australia’s southern cities like Sydney. I always enjoy that unique, tropical northern stop on my Australian route.
My mum says Darwin has a really tropical climate with a distinct wet and dry season instead of four seasons. Is that true?
It is true, Flynn, Darwin experiences a tropical climate with a wet season and a dry season, rather than the four seasons found further south. I always adjust my sleigh’s gear for that particular kind of weather.
Merry Christmas, Santa.
Your friend,
Flynn Whitmore
Darwin, Australia
P.S. Does the sun ever charge up your own sleigh lights?
Only a little, Flynn, mostly it just charges my mood.
