Dear Santa, my name is Freja and I am nine years old. I live in Billund, Denmark, where my far says our little town is famous for something almost every child in the world has held in their own hands.
Dear Freja, I know exactly what your far means, and I have personally stepped on a stray brick or two while delivering presents over the years.
Santa, I have three questions.
My first question is, do you have Christmas Legos at the North Pole? My cousin wants a whole Christmas village set and will not stop asking about it.
We do, Freja, and building sets are a workshop favorite this time of year. Your cousin has excellent taste, and I have a soft spot for a well-built miniature village myself.
My second question is about our town. My teacher says Billund is actually the real hometown of the toy company that makes them. Is that true?
It is entirely true, Freja. Billund is where that famous toy company was founded, and it remains the heart of its design and history to this day. Flying over your small town each December feels a little like visiting the birthplace of a great many children’s imaginations.
My third question is about Danish design. My teacher says our country is famous for making things carefully and simply, not just fancy. Is that true?
It is, Freja. Danish design is well known worldwide for its focus on simplicity, quality, and thoughtful craftsmanship, values reflected in everything from furniture to toys built right in your own town. I think that same careful, patient approach shows up beautifully in how Danish families build their Christmas traditions too, piece by piece, with real care.
