Dear Santa,
Hi Santa! My name is Lincoln and I am 8 years old. I live in Fargo, North Dakota, where the winters are long and snowy and the land is flat as far as you can see. I love sledding and watching movies on cold nights. My question is: can you help me remember that Santa Claus movie I saw? My geography question is: what is unusual about the Red River of the North? And my social studies question is: who were Lewis and Clark? Thanks, Santa!

The Red River of the North flows right past your own Fargo, and it is unusual because it flows north, toward Canada, instead of south. Most rivers in the country flow toward the south or the sea, so a north-flowing river is a fun rarity. Because the land is so flat, it can also spread out and flood in spring.
