What Is Santa’s Address? II

Sophie, age 9 from Ottawa, Ontario, asks Santa for his real address, the Rideau Canal, and Ottawa’s role as Canada’s capital.

Dear Santa, my name is Sophie, and I am nine years old. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, where my dad says a canal right through our city turns into the world’s largest skating rink every winter.

Dear Sophie, the world’s largest skating rink is one of my favorite winter sights on my entire route, your dad picked a truly magical hometown.

Santa, I have three questions.

What is Santa’s address? My teacher says there is a real official one we can write to.

There truly is, Sophie, Canada Post set up a special address just for me, Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, and every single letter sent there gets a reply. Your teacher gave you excellent, accurate information.

My dad says Ottawa sits along the Ottawa River, right where the Rideau Canal joins in. Is that true?

It is true, Sophie, the Rideau Canal meets the Ottawa River right in your city, a beautiful waterway recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. I always enjoy that frozen, glittering path in winter.

My dad says Ottawa is the capital of all of Canada, where important national decisions get made. Is that true?

It is true, Sophie, Ottawa serves as Canada’s capital, home to Parliament and many of the country’s most important decisions. I always fly a respectful pass over that historic skyline.

Merry Christmas, Santa.

Your friend,
Sophie Tremblay
Ottawa, Ontario

P.S. Will my letter really get a reply if I send it to that address?

Every single time, Sophie, that postal code has never once let a child down.
